What Is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive aesthetic technique that can significantly improve the appearance of your skin. This unique therapy injects hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and other essential nutrients into precise regions of your face to improve texture and renew its appearance!
Your Face After Mesotherapy
To achieve the best results from mesotherapy, adequate post-treatment facial maintenance is required. Here’s what you may expect in the days after your session.
Day 1:
On the first day, you may feel discomfort, tenderness, or swelling in the treatment area. To ease these symptoms, apply a cold compress and avoid hot showers and baths.
Day 2:
On the second day, the swelling and discomfort should begin to reduce. However, you should continue to avoid hot showers and baths, as well as excessive sun exposure.
Day 3 and After:
By the third day, the healing process should be well underway, with minimal swelling and soreness. However, you should avoid vigorous exercise and excessive alcohol consumption for at least one week.
Pre-Meso Treatment Advice
- Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours before treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising).
- Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood-thinning drugs for at least two weeks before therapy. Aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, and other NSAIDS all thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising and edema after injections.
- Stop using Retin-A two days before and two days after the treatment.
- If you have a rash, cold sore, or blemish in the area, reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours ahead of time.
- If you have a history of cold sores, please notify your provider and take your anti-viral medicine prior to treatment.
- Before your procedure, make sure you eat a nice breakfast and drink something. This will reduce the likelihood of lightheadedness during your treatment.
Mesotherapy Face Aftercare Advice
- The treated region should be handled with care. BE GENTLE! Avoid scratching or picking at your skin, and use sunscreen regularly.
- You must not pick, scratch, or use any exfoliants (mild exfoliation may be permitted after 3-5 days), since this may harm the new skin and introduce germs, resulting in skin infections.
- Applying make-up to the treated areas, using scented lotions or soaps, deodorants, active components (Vitamin A, AHAs, etc.), acne creams or gels, loofa sponges, and harsh scrubbing should all be avoided until the sensitivity has faded entirely.
- Also, avoid hot or cold water – wash with lukewarm water, shaving, swimming pools and spas with numerous chemicals or chlorine, and activities that create excessive perspiration.
- For the 48 hours following your needling treatment, rinse your skin with a soothing cleanser or face wash and gently dry it. Always keep your hands clean when touching the needled region.
- After your needling session, your skin may feel drier than usual. Hyaluronic Acid is an ideal component for hydrating and restoring the skin’s balance. Your therapist may suggest a suitable home care product for you after needling.
- It is recommended that no makeup be worn for 12 hours following the treatment, though your therapist may be able to provide you with specific mineral makeup that they believe is appropriate for use during this time.
- Do not apply makeup with a cosmetics brush that has not been cleaned.
DO NOT use spray tanning or artificial tanning creams for 2-3 weeks following the procedure. - If the treated area is particularly warm, a cold compress or ice pack might be applied to provide relief. This is normally only required within the first 12 hours following treatment.
- A post-treatment lotion, such as Youth Lab Calm Balm, applied to the treatment region may have a relaxing effect. Post-treatment discomfort is usually mild, but if the area is really unpleasant, an oral pain medication, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, may be administered.
- For at least 14 days following skin needling, avoid sun exposure and extreme heat in the treated region. The treated area is more susceptible to sunburn and pigmentation changes (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). Keep the region covered and use sunscreen with a protection value of 50+.
Follow-up After Mesotherapy For Face
Subsequent treatments are scheduled 2-4 weeks apart, as recommended by your therapist. It is recommended that you start with three treatments.
Following a course of therapy with continuing collagen stimulation for up to 8 months, the skin tone, texture, and quality will improve significantly.
Scarring or severely damaged skin will necessitate additional sessions (6 or more), with frequent maintenance advised.
